According to MPR today is the last day to send your comments re the
permitting of the Embridge oil pipeline through northern MN - which is
proposed to run from the tarsands in Alberta Canada to Park Rapids MN and
on to Superior WI.
Some say the pipeline would endanger the environment - especially the wild
rice fields and the MN water shed. Others say that it is better than
transporting oil by other means such as rail.
Here is the email address if you want to send a comment:

Here is a copy of my comment:
MN Dept of Commerce should not give a permit to Embridge to put this
pipeline through MN. It would endanger the wild rice fields and the MN
water shed. If there were a spill, Embridge would not respond before tens
of thousands of gallons of tar sands dirty oil were released and we have
no guarantees that Embridge would pay for the clean up. Embridge does not
want to remove the old rusting pipeline before installing a new one. This
oil is from the Canadian tar sands - some of the dirtiest crude oil.
Embridge is concerned only with its bottom line - profits - not about the
environment. According to an attorney from the organization Honor The
Earth, Embridge has been lobbying other states to increase the amount of
time in which it legally has to respond to a spill. MN needs to be
concentrating on green/clean energy. There needs to be a whole lot more
transparency about the proceedings regarding these kind of matters that
affect us all.
