Greetings all,
Following up on Steve's email, with CURA:Tech wrapped up, we'll be
archiving this forum.
Before that happens, I wanted share a couple more things:
*You're invited to Geo:Code 2.0, this weekend, March 5-6* on the UMN
campus.
This event is for anyone interested in open data, geography, and
civic-minded projects (whether you're a tech developer or not!).
More information is below and at www.hennepin.us/geocode. Check out project
ideas, location and time info, and register there. There are still about 25
for 200 spots left!
Also, you may already be receiving *email updates from CURA,* but if not,
*visit **http://z.umn.edu/curanews* <http://z.umn.edu/curanews>* to sign up
for CURA news. *
Thanks, and my best to you!
Kristen
*Geo:Code 2.0*
In 2015, Hennepin County hosted the first Geo:Code open data codeathon.
This year, we’re looking forward to taking our conversation about
community, open data, technology and geography across the Twin Cities.
Geo:Code 2.0 will be hosted by Open Twin Cities, Anoka County, Carver
County, the Citizen’s League, the City of Minneapolis, the City of St.
Paul, the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) at the University of
Minnesota, Dakota County, Hennepin County, Metro GIS, MnGeo, Ramsey County,
Scott County and Washington County and will be held* 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- March 5 and 6, 2016*, Robert H. Bruininks Hall, Room 412, University of
Minnesota.
*Community, Geography, Technology *
Geo:Code 2.0 will connect civically-minded community members with
geographers and technology developers to collaborate on the use of
technology and data to effect change for good. Community matters as the
forum for bringing people together to solve problems, geography matters
because community concerns are tied to a place, and technology matters
because it provides a tool to examine and address community concerns.
*Build your community, code for good*
Codeathons, hackathons, open data jams – however you say it, these events
are great opportunities to come together, collaborate on existing projects
or jump start new ones. Code on an open source project, take a run at
visualizing available open data, help out with some research, develop a new
policy, work collaboratively with local government staff to improve public
services or just generally put your shoulder into projects centered on
improving, enjoying or exploring the places we live in the Twin Cities.
This event is free and for everyone! We’re calling people of all
backgrounds and skills. Coders, cartographers, data visualizers, designers,
developers, dreamers, makers, mappers, students and technologists – from
full-stack to “I’ve never been to one of these events before!” – Everyone
and every idea is welcome! You never know where a project will take you
and what skills will be needed. From programmers to project managers,
public affairs representatives to presentation designers -- it does not
matter what you do, you have something critical to contribute!
