I'm trying to put together a workshop about online tools for e-citizenship, to be presented this Monday (March 3rd) at the Rondo Library (7-8:30, be there). As part of this workshop, I want to give examples of St. Paul residents using the internet to build their community or participate in local politics. So, what are your favorite tools for e-citizenship? How do you use the internet to further your role as a citizen of St. Paul or member of a particular community (political, religious, cultural, recreational, etc.)? What are your favorite local blogs, websites, online communities, etc? Thanks for your help. Go to http://pages.e-democracy.org/SPED-Outreach for more information about St. Paul E-Democracy's workshops and other Outreach Committee activities.

SPIF is #1!!!!!
But, what else......??
To keep myself locally connected, informed, and to occasionally share
my opinion, I use (among others).....

Greetings all, I am proud to be part of mnblue at http://www.mnblue.com/ for political information like the delegate guide http://www.mnblue.com/node/896 or how to subcaucus http://www.mnblue.com/node/898 As well as coverage of values, issues, debates, candidates, races, peace activism and political activism. Mnblue is one of the most "how-to" sites among the political blogs. Every blog usually keeps a list of other interesting sites that the multiple authors of the blog like, so you can network similar sites for a broader news coverage. In addition to listing the blog links, the mnblue blog is part of "lefty blogs" scroll of articles on the sidebar. The authors of mnblue are diverse, so the discussions in the comments can get quite interesting. For example, two major authors have split on who to support for the US senate race. I cover most of what I write here on SPIF, also in mnblue, simply because the discussion can then range far afield of the "St Paul focus" constraint. Here is the list of favorite blogs that the mnblue authors have created: Local Links Aurora blognetnews.com/Minnesota Blue man in a Red district Blue Stem Prairie Centrisity City Hall Scoop The City Page's Blotter The Cucking Stool Dump Michelle Bachmann Energista Eyeteeth Fruit Fly Gavin Sullivan Growth and Justice I Don't Hate America! With apologies for my obvious bias, I actually do use the St. Paul Public Schools website a lot starting at www.spps.org. Board meetings, agendas, and contact info is at http://www.spps.org/Board_of_Education.html. A great source is the Data Center at http://datacenter.spps.org/, which has an enormous amount of useful information on students, schools, performance, etc., originating from both school district and state sources. I also use this page for info on policies, procedures, and exhibits: http://www.spps.org/POLICIES_AND_RELATED_PROCEDURES_EXHIBITS. And the business office provides tons of budget info at http://www.businessoffice.spps.org/BudgetReport.html as well as other useful information at http://www.businessoffice.spps.org.
I think city and government sites in Minnesota are fairly good at all levels. For government research, I like this list of "Insanely Useful Sites" http://www.sunlightfoundation.com/resources Grace Kelly nicknamed Kelly Curmudgeon in Merriam Park
There's this really cool new blog for the Frogtown neighborhoods. Just started, but I can tell it's going to be all the rage. http://gfcdc.blogspot.com. (end of shameless plug :) Steve Boland Living in Selby-Dale Working in Greater Frogtown neighborhoods

I couldn't resist this oppertunity to offer you all the link to one of the most popular blogs/forums that is available to everyone! A Democracy has become so popular that even the Minnesota House of Representitives has requested to have several direct links on it. If you have never visited A Democracy and are a St.Paul citizen I highly recommend A Democracy so that you can become informed of some issue that should and will be of concern to each and everyone of you.
