Hanging out with Al Gore does make a day great!
On Facebook tonight!
My Al Gore story for today.
A couple thousand people today filled Westminster Hall Forum starting at 10:am
in order to hear Al Gore, on his book tour: Future. Very serious business
thinking about our future on this planet.
However, the ending of my day with Al Gore goes like this and is the greatest,
saddest and funniest part. I had done reconnaissance 2 days ago to figure out
the parking situation. Downtown is nightmare so got a friend to go along. She
dropped me off in the back parking lot and there in the handicapped spot was Al
Gore's limousine.
I go to the event, blah, blah, blah. Time to leave. My friend went to go get
the car and I meander my way back to the "back" door.
At the back door is a nice sitting place and I waited. As I waited an old
Neighborhood/MCDA person (Jim Sutherland) comes down the steps with his wife.
He recognizes me and we talked about the good old revitalization days on
Franklin Ave. and the Phillips cast of characters. He really did want to know
how everyone was and to say hello.
Now I had a dream - I had wanted a picture with Al Gore for my Park Board
campaign this year and as I am talking to Jim I realize Al has to come out this
way to get in his limo which actually was in my parking stall. Oh well. Talking
about Phillips - here comes Al, they are sweeping him. By the time I figure out
he is getting to that car - I had to actually ask Mr. Sutherland to move and by
that time realized - I get to look at Al - no picture. It all happened in a
FLASH! Boy, those 30-second specials are quite mentally smashing.
But in the end, you are all saved from seeing that picture the next 9 months
and in reality there is a much different message. Al Gore did provide some
common sense to the fact that we had better come up with some solutions to our
global and United States issues. He only spoke a half an hour and then Q & A.
It wasn't enough. He was just getting warmed up at a half hour - he is one of
these people you wouldn't mind listening to for at least an hour or more.
We all need our juice to keep our mojo working. I did get mine today in more
ways than one. And it is Mardi Gras in NOLA this weekend and Jug Band Fest on
Sunday at the Cabooze. Time to have a little fun under the pressure of it all.
Being an environmentalist is a little rough these days.
Time to have fun, protest and try to deal with saving us from going over the
environmental "cliff".
