St Luke Presbyterian Church is seeking an individual to manage our gardens.
St. Luke Presbyterian Church is a joyful, inclusive and compassionate community

caring for people and planet.
Our Sustainability team has several ongoing initiates, to include providing
garden produce to the Western suburbs ICA food shelf and the urban Native food
shelf at the Division of Indian Work. The gardens are located at:

Permaculture/Organic Garden Manager Description:
We are seeking a person with permaculture/organic awareness/experience to
manage the gardens at St Luke. Managing would include collaboratively leading
the design of the gardens (mapping and selection of plants) taking the
initiative to care for the garden (checking the irrigation system, monitoring
possible pests and weeding) and the overall production of the gardens that
reflect the goals of the Sustainability team and stakeholders who stand to be
impacted by the Garden. This person would have the active support of additional
volunteers, but would be responsible for the overall construction and
maintenance of the Garden and collaborative harvesting.
Garden Manager Preferred Characteristics:
• Experience managing an organic or permaculture garden or agricultural plot
• Experience or familiar with permaculture /organic principles and application
• Able to work collaboratively with volunteers
• Flexible, mature, solid communication skills
• Interested in a earth climate justice
• Reliable, independent, self-starter
• Able to work closely with team leader to communicate the progression of
garden projects and needs
• Reliable transportation—able to get to/from garden in timely manner;
• Willing to complete a background check
• Interest or experience in hunger issues/equal food access
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Compensation:
$15.00 per hour for an average of 15 hours per week. The total number of hours
per week will vary to accommodate weather conditions, harvest season or other
mitigating circumstances however; the Garden Manager will be expected to
dedicate a minimum of 10 hours / week in the gardens.
Garden Manager Position Length: 6 months, beginning in May 2019 – October
(weather permitting) an average of 15 hours per week.
