I believe I've reached out to each city that has held a camp to let you know
about the idea for CityCamp Congress and to get your initial feedback. That
feedback was overwhelmingly positive, i.e., 100%. Organizers, sponsors and
civil servants active in local Gov 2.0 are enthusiastic about event. Chicago
CTO and CityCamp alumnus, John Tolva welcomes CityCamp Congress back to The
Windy City and has pledged support from the city. As the event begins to
take shape it seems fitting to make the first public announcement in this
forum.
I am also recruiting for an organizing committee. It won't take a lot of
people. That said, I think CityCamp Congress will be more ambitious than the
inaugural and there will be plenty to do. No decisions have been made except
A) it will happen and B) it will be in Chicago. Responsibilities are those
of event planning: sponsorship & fundraising, booking facilities & caterers,
marketing/PR/outreach, and the like. The event should also be as virtual as
possible. That means streaming, telepresence, webinars, and the like. If
you are willing and able to play an active role in planning CityCamp
Congress or if you have connections to folks who can provide support please
contact me directly (<email obscured>). Other feedback is welcome on this
forum.
