- *Ever get confused about the terms* *"community" and "neighborhood"* *as
they apply to parts of Minneapolis?* The city of Minneapolis is made up of
81 different neighborhoods that comprise 11 communities. The Standish
neighborhood is a part of the larger Powderhorn Community, and the Ericsson
neighborhood is a part of the larger Nokomis Community. Originally,
communities were the basic units for planning in Minneapolis, while
neighborhoods were areas that could be logically served by a single
elementary school.
