FIRST EARTH CHARTER SUMMIT IN AMHERST
"The first Earth Charter Summit in Amherst, Massachusetts will be held
October 14, 2006 at Hampshire College, from 10 AM to 5 PM, in Franklin
Patterson Hall. The Earth Charter is an international people's (not
governments, UN or
organizations) agreement for a compassionate, just and sustainable world that
is the product of collaboration by thousands of individuals from 78 countries
over the course of 12 years and was launched at the Hague Peace Palace in
June 2000. It has the core value of interdependence and calls for economic
and social justice, peace, democracy and ecological integrity. Every year
since its release, on the second Saturday in October, groups all around the
world host Earth Charter Summits, which are aimed at promoting the principles
set forth in The Earth Charter and determining how they can be implemented at
the personal, community, and institutional levels. This first Summit at
Hampshire will be a day of discussion, presentations, speakers, and
workshops, on a variety of topics -- all in the spirit of sustainability. Come
take part in the making of history! For more information, please contact
