State of the City

As a member of the Gus Hall Action Club, I am proud that His Worship*, the
mayor of Saint Paul, acknowledged Gus Hall's Presidential campaigns as the
Communist Party USA's candidate, the last of which was in 1984. If I had been
born 11 days later, I would never have had the chance to cast my vote for the
only worthwhile Presidential candidate of my lifetime.
I love Saint Paul and am proud to be a part of bringing Communist
consciouness back to the city where I was red-baited by students and faculty of
Central High School from 1981 to 1983. While I still feel that the people
involved owe me an apology, I am glad that Saint Paul has grown up. Maybe His
Worship's new rec centres and dog parks will truly improve the quality of life
in the capital city. While I now live in Minneapolis, the "City of Ellen"**,
and am skeptical about the traffic impacts of the planned University Avenue LRT
(which passes right by Rondo Library, which is on the same block as my
still-standing childhood home), I will always have a soft spot in my heart for
Saint Paul. Now about the lack of sidewalks in the Rice Street area near
Larpenteur....

* "Your Worship" is the proper salutation for the mayor of a city in the UK,
Canada, and probably other British colonies.
** The reasons why I call Minneapolis the "City of Ellen" are personal; it is
not a common nickname for that city.
