I think Paul Nelson's idea is spectacular. Personally, I'm a little emotional
at times about the Turf Club and Big V's. I get emotional about Porkey's too,
but those are not healthy emotions. I wonder what others amongst us would
think of University Avenue if it were transformed (albeit temporarily) from "a
place of high traffic, a place to avoid", into something more humane? Some
people might be inconvenienced in that they'll have to find an alternate auto
route (I think there's a suitable option a couple of blocks to the south).
There also would be numerous positives to weigh against the minor
inconveniences of some. These numerous positives are on display often in
Portland and Bogota.
It looks like the idea has worked well in Portland, OR:

It's also a very popular event in Bogota, Columbia where Ciclovia was
originated:

As we continue to drive less and less often I see ideas such as this taking a
strong hold.
