Thanks Steven for getting us up and running.
My name is Paul Rohlfing and I have lived in the Standish Neighborhood since
2005. Before that, my wife Karen Baumgaertner and I lived in Powderhorn.
I grew up in Minneapolis (I attended Northrop Elementary back when it was on
46th Street). My wife and I have a daughter, Jane, who is almost 2 years old. I
work as a union organizer for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
Local 284. Mostly, that work has involved working with school bus drivers here
in Minneapolis and across the state to improve school bus safety and help
school districts contain costs.
I love our neighborhood. I'm interested in discussions about development in our
commercial intersections and along Hiawatha Avenue. I'm also interested in
public safety discussions. My main interest is in our neighborhood's public
schools. I'm currently working as a volunteer on the MPS referendum renewal
campaign. As a future MPS parent, I am concerned about possible future school
closings - particularly if they might impact neighborhood schools like
Roosevelt, Sanford or others.
