Thanks Dan for giving residents the opportunity for input. The article you
provided was helpful.
I had never been in a Pawn Shop before reading the article you referenced but
my reaction has always been negative.
Because I have received three phone calls asking what position the Roseville
Citizens League had on this matter I stopped and visited the one on Rice Street
in Little Canada that is called- LINCOLN PAWN- and visited one of the other
businesses close by. Please note that the RCL has no position and has not even
discussed the issue up to this point.
The owner of Lincoln Pawn indicated that he does not deal with items like car
stereos- bikes etc that are more likely to be stolen. I walked through the
place and found it having a lot of items that one would find in a jewelry or
hardware store. Even golf clubs- A business in the same block said that they
had never had a problem and considered the Pawn Shop a good Neighbor.
I then checked out the one in Roseville at the North West corner of Rice St.
and Larpenteur. One of the Business owners in the area stated that the Pawn
Shop does effect the type of clientele that frequents the area and that it
would be better if they were not there.
It would seem to me that before the matter is considered by the City Council on
the 28th that information be obtained from both the Roseville & Little Canada
Police Depts to see what the history has been as far as any difficulties- I
know that Roseville has a number of empty commercial buildings so it is not an
easy decision. Roger
