I found the article very interesting and a balanced reporting of what has
been a controversial episode in recent Seward life. I remember the dialogue
that
occurred at the time and I responded in support of the project (even before
I knew that one of my offspring had contributed to the project) to our city
council person. I was not totally surprised at the negative response from
Seward residents having witnessed it at neighborhood meetings, gatherings,
events
-- even as many like to think of Seward as an "arts community." Can't say
that I liked everything that went up on the walls of the old market but can't
say that I like every piece of art that I see in whatever venue I happen to
peruse, anywhere, anytime.
Our young artists need nurturing not censuring -- repression breeds dissent
at best perhaps, inappropriate behavior, rebellion for the sheer sake of it
perhaps at worst.
Some of the best examples of art have been controversial, serving to shake
up the status quo.
Check out the article, food for thought.
