First, my apologies for getting my e-mails mixed up last week and accidentally
sending the Issues Forum a message meant for a co-worker. I had meant to
respond to this this question, but sending that errant e-mail used up my daily
quota of posts.
I've seen much of the archive that's referenced below. It has about 2,000
photos. They're all from 1960, when the photo editor sent two shooters out to
document a city on the cusp of change due to the Gateway renewal clearance and
freeway construction. They're in the hands of the Star Tribune library staff.
What will happen if they go on e-bay? The highest bidder will get them. But I
doubt thet'll go on e-bay. More likely, they'll eventually be donated to the
historical society, as thousands, if not tens of thousands, of old newspaper
photos already have been.

In honor of Preservation Month, here's an interesting lecture tomorrow by Larry
Millett...Millett attended
DeLaSalle high school in the 60's and the demolition
of the Metropolitan Hotel inspired his book Lost Twin
Cities and his career as an architectural historian
and journalist.
The photos are from the Minneapolis Star Tribune's archives...WOW how many
photos are in those archives
and how far back do they go?...anyone taking good
care of them? What will happen if the powers that be
decide to sell em all on Ebay for $$$????
