I'll attempt to make an argument about billboards as a business as soon as
someone argues to my satisfaction: why the relocation and rehabilitation of the
Armstrong-Quinlan House was a wise use of taxpayer dollars, in excess of $4
Million Dollars.

title of this topic may sound, that appears to be the latest message from Clear
Channel Communications.> > This morning I once again passed my "favorite"
billboards - the ones blocking the Armstrong-Quinlan House. The board on the
left advertises help for the suicidal; the one on the right advertises Miller
beer.> > I was unable to photograph the A-Q boards this morning, but a friend
of mine took the attached photo last week on Snelling Avenue. Again, a suicide
board is on the left, but this time the accompanying board advertises "therapy"
- watch TV! But if TV won't bring you out of the dumps, check out the business
sign below the suicide board.> > (An aside: the man who jumped off the
Lafayette Bridge to his death the other week did so right next to the billboard
advertising ... the Holy Bible. Presumably that was not the desired effect, but
I could be wrong.)> > As I testified to the City Council, Clear Channel wants
us drunk, broke, and in front of the television. This is somehow
"pro-business"?! It's sickening, if you ask me. If I were the suicide
prevention people, I'd want my money back, and then some. Oh - it was probably
free advertising for them - never mind. And I wouldn't doubt it if the
purveyors of TV and alcohol pay extra to advertise next to suicide boards.
Would you like to know who pays what to Clear Channel and CBS?> > Waiting to
hear from anyone who can, with a clear conscience, justify this "business"...>
