40,000 people??
Holy bouncing kato ball! I have to confess I didn't watch the news at all this
weekend, but I grabbed a paper here and there. Not a lot of heads up, but then
I might have missed it. My only notice of the event was my new roommate (she's
from Portland, OR) saying that she was excited to go. She's working with a lot
of Hmong kids this summer as an intern. I was a bit cautionary, and maybe
unnecessarily so, about the incidence of gang stuff in the past at this event.
I'm glad this year's was smooth, and with 40,000 people, that says an awful lot
about how very smooth it was!!
The trash is a bummer, but littering in general has become more of an issue the
last few years all over town. I know we don't have the money to provide more
receptacles and pick-up, but I wish our collective awareness could pick up, at
least. I feel for the residents around the State Fair every year. Y'know,
increasing awareness and re-instilling a pride of place would do the trick.
Like at the dog park--- leave no trace, and feel better about being there.
Back to the 40K: How much economic impact do you suppose these folks had on St
Paul?
