Exciting News to Share:
After some convincing, the principal of our local elementary school has
agreed to let the kids ride their bikes to school for a trial period.
Unbelievably, kids are currently prohibited from riding bikes, using
skateboards, or skates to get to school. In celebration of Bike to Work
week, kids have been given permission to ride to school!
My wonderful wife has been so good in organizing things. We'll be having an
bicycle skills instruction and safety check at Falcon Heights Elementary
School on Saturday, May 11. Parent volunteers will be helping watch and help
kids at busy intersections near the school during the week. We'll be
wrapping up the week with a family and kid oriented ride through Roseville
on Saturday, May 18.
I think there are a number of parents and teachers excited. I hope the week
is an amazing success. I hope that throughout the city there will be
increased bicycle and pedestrian traffic during the week. So, please keep a
watchful eye out, be patient and understanding.
Hopefully, this will be a first step in emphasizing and encouraging more
non-motorized transit options for our younger generation.

I found this site that I thought was somewhat cool too:
http://2milechallenge.com Looks like it was originally intended for the
West Coast, but if you put in your address, it draws a nice visual circle
showing a 2 mile radius.
If anyone would like any advice or assistance in finding a safe route via
bicycle to or from Roseville, I would be happy to attempt to help. Feel free
to shoot me a message or post a message to the list. I would encourage you
to go ahead and try; run an errand without picking up the car keys.
