I noticed this on Newham's propaganda site: http://www.newham.gov.uk/News/2008/Motorcyclistswarnedtostayawayfromparks.htm Interestingly, Newham has purchased for the Parks Constabulary two Ecoriders: http://www.ecorider.com/index.php?content_id=7&styleid=9 at a cost of £3,500 each (I've been informed that another three have also been ordered). You cannot ride these bikes on the public highway so they have to be transported between parks on the back of another vehicle (very eco-friendly). No doubt the sight to been seen in the future will be a spotty youth tearing it up along the Greenway closely followed (but not that closely - the ecorider only does 35 MPH) by a parkie. I can only guess
Got a phone call today from someone claiming to be a parks constable.
He told me that a senior officer of the anti-social behaviour unit (who is NOT
an attested parks constable - even though he wears one of their uniforms) has
been tearing up and down the Greenway on an Ecorider and has stopped people for
committing "offences".
It seems that the same-old nonsense is still going on in this dysfunctional
council service.
Over a month on and the Council finally go public: http://www.newham.gov.uk/News/2008/Ecoriderpatrolstotackleantisocialbehaviourinparks.htm Is it just me, or do these guys look like real police officers? Yet the recommendation in the Kelly report was that the uniform should change so that they are NOT mistaken for police officers. I also note that the bikes "have been introduced to help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour". Sadly, parks constables have no powers to tackle crime (only the same any persons powers as you and I) even in a park; they can only enforce Council bye laws.
