ammendments failed. It must not happen again. It is totally improper to try
to legislate behavior and other social issues through the ammendment process.
I call upon our legislators to fix the process for putting forth ammendments to
the constitution. Our constituion is written to govern and not to legislate by
individual whims and fancies or ideologies.
I am deeply offended by the two attempts this year to do just that. I do not
have the exact solution on how that process can be made more secure. However,
one suggestion I did read was for the legislature to develop a requirement for
a "super majority" for anything regarding ammendments to get out of the
legislature and a "super majority" for it to be adopted by the state. Is that
enough???? I don't know but I am sure there are legal steps that can be taken
to be sure that the Constitution for the State of Minnesota is made more
secure.
