Does Winona Lack Talent? From: Paul Double Date: Jun 27 16:30 UTC Short link
_____ It was with amazement Wednesday that on page one of the Daily News at report from the Riverfront Committee appointed last fall by Mayor Jerry Miller. What was amazing was the name of Barry Drazkowski, a Riverfront Committee Member. On page three, in another article, is a report the former board member Barry Drazkowski of rural Fountain City won the vote for the Cochrane-Fountain City School Board. While Barry must be both dedicated and talented his skills are not an issue. It is to me noteworthy since a second committee the "Levee on Main Committee" will also be presenting their findings to a third committee the "Downtown Revitalization Committee" Have we now created so many committee's that we have to seek members, who do not live in Winona nor who may not feel the bite of property taxes increases to support whatever is the final outcome to our local city committee's? How many other city boards, committee's or even local theater or arts groups who are seeking public financial support from property taxes may not live in Winona or even Minnesota? It most certainly begs the bigger questions --- Has Winona run out of local residents to fill these rolls? Is the real support for the use of Winona's public tax dollars being assisted or authored by outside forces? It has the same kind of ring as university students from outside Winona voting for property tax increases and then leaving town before the bill is payable.
