There has been a dead prostitution sauna, once called the Utopia East Health
Club, across Lake St. from my house for some three years now. The police raided
it, the court ordered it closed. It's been in some sort of limbo since then. If
someone bought it, they didn't have the ducks lined up to refurbish it and rent
it or use it (for something other than prostitution).
It had insulation hanging off the front walls, the graffiti taggers spray it
every couple of months. It has been a considerable eye sore every time I look
out the window.
Wednesday, some guys pulled up and unloaded cinder blocks, took out the part of
the wall with the insulation, replaced it with cinder block. Today they
painted the building, fixed the roof trim, and voila, if it ain't Frank Lloyd
Wright, at least it is no longer the eye sore it was.
I attribute this change to a conversation I had with CM Lilligren who knew the
owners.
