larger media narrative is that people are living inside one or another ânews
bubbleâ which limits the information they get, so I decide to take a look and
share what I found. Iâm not sure what the right wing equivalent of DNO is, so I
picked Breitbart News (BN), since it seems to be a favorite of so many here.
(If there are other more apt comparisons Iâd like to hear about them. I took
screenshots of each at 11:43AM on 7/28/18.)
DNOâs front page has
- Noam Chomsky on âFamily separation at US/Mexico borderâ
- Headline #2 about âfamily separationâ - 700+ Migrant Families Still Separated
as Reunification Deadline Passes
- Headline #3 about âfamily separationâ
- Headline - House votes on military spending bill
- Headline - Michael Cohen says Trump knew about Russia meeting
- Headline - House GOP to impeach Rosenstein
- Head;ine - Pakistan - Khan declares victory
- Headline - Gaza - Palestinians call for more protest
- Headline - Palestinian teen released from jail
BN front page
âGOP Rep Yoder offers Green Card Givewayâ
- Headline - Illegal migrants sea crossings to Europe
- Headline - Pope Francis praises theological conference
- Headline - Donât let climate nutcase ruin your summer
- Headline - Shiff on Cohenâs claim
- Headline - Trump/Russia collusion hoax
Nothing surprising there. DNO takes a left wing viewpoint, BN takes the right
wing. Other than the 'Cohen' articles, I didn't see any overlap. I looked at
the first article on each page.
DNO - 700+ Migrant Families Still Separated as Reunification Deadline Passes -
this short blurb doesnât give any sources, but quotes an ACLU lawyer who is
anti-Trump administration - I looked for the companion story âDespite Todayâs
Court-Ordered Deadline, More Than 900 Migrant Children Remain Separated from
Parentsâ - and it is a interview of two immigration lawyers with no sources.
BN - Illegal migrants sea crossings to Europe - seems well sourced, and takes
the view that migrants bring trouble and crime to European shores.
I donât regularly read either of these sites. They are both obviously biased
toward an ideological viewpoint. I prefer the site with links to source
material - so at least numerical claims can be reviewed. In my opinion, the
left wing site relies very heavily on a shared point of view - that something
is âwrongâ - and not so much on simple numbers to make a claim.
