As reported in the Pioneer Press, Mayor Carter, Council Member Nelson and NAACP
President Farhio Khalif demand the release of body camera footage immediately!
Nelson and Khalif called for the release of body camera footage. “Another
black man has been killed by the police,” Khalif said. “… We need justice and
we need to know exactly what happened.” She said she echoes the community call
for the police department to release body camera footage. (Pioneer Press)
Yes, Ms. Khalif we all need justice. The officer involved needs justice, the
public needs justice and the only way to do that is to let the BCA do their
job!
To Mayor Carter, City Council Member Nelson and NAACP President Ms. Khalif, you
all need to wait until the BCA finished their investigation just like the rest
of us! If you make statements that cause people to riot for no reason they you
are the problem!
City Council Member Nelson stated, “Our body cameras are supposed to capture
moments gone wrong, moments of tragedy, everything in between and I just think
we really, really need to be able to see that right now,” Nelson said Sunday
night. “I think one of the most important things we need is transparency.”
Yes Ms. Nelson we do need transparency, not a politically motivated outcome to
fit your or Mayor Carter's or Ms. Khalif's particular political agenda, but we
need to get all of the facts. Releasing any evidence before the investigation
is done is just wrong and is against state law.
To Mayor Carter, to City Council Member Nelson and to NAACP President Ms.
Khalif everyone here matters, the assailant, the police officer and the public.
Just because you hold an elected title doesn't make you "special" that you can
interfere with an ongoing investigation and try to demand the release of the
body camera footage. Sorry to say this, but you have to wait just like the
rest of us!
In closing, to the three mentioned, Mayor Carter, City Council Member Nelson
and NAACP Ms. Khalif, "All Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter!"
To the police officer and the family members of this police officer and to our
fellow police officers please know you are in our prayers more than ever. If
your elected leaders will not support you, please know we do!
Tomorrow, I am starting the Blue Ribbon campaign, where we tie a blue ribbon on
our boulevard trees to show our support for our police officers to let them
know we support them! (Anyone know where we can get a ton of blue ribbon?)
I stand with our SPPD officers, I support them and right now I feel their pain!
This was not an attack on just one officer, it was an attack on all of us! It
is time to take back our city from these thugs and if our elected leaders can't
do their job then they need to be replaced!
