CTEP Mission: The AmeriCorps Community Technology Empowerment Project
(CTEP) bridges the "digital divide" for recent immigrants and low-
income communities in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
St. Paul E-Democracy (SPED) is looking for a self-directed,
enthusiastic, creative, and disciplined AmeriCorps member who will be
responsible for the ongoing organizational function of SPED’s
Outreach initiatives, help evaluate the work that SPED has done so
far, improve the quality and content of its workshops, and expand
SPED’s reach beyond present projects.
Member would work closely with SPED volunteers to:
1) Community Outreach - Develop a plan to publicize and promote
SPED outreach activities, along with priorities and strategies
for
implementation. This would include:
a. Identifying target audiences
b. Identifying potential partners
c. Identifying existing curricular or other resources
that can be used in the classes
d. Developing materials necessary to implement activities,
such as brochures, handouts, audio and video materials
e. Designing evaluation and assessment tools
2) Workshop Development and Implementation - Work with community
members to determine needs and content for two-hour “intro”
classes on various tools for digital participation
(podcasting, blogging, citizen media, etc). This would include:
a. Developing class curricula and materials to offer classes
weekly in Rondo library and in other community venues as time
and resources permit
b. Matching SPED volunteer skills with classes needed
c. Coordinating SPED classes with other organizations such as
the library
d. Creating on an ongoing basis a two-month calendar of
available classes
e. Coordinating SPED classes with other organizations such as
the library
f. Publicizing
g. Designing evaluation and assessment tools
3) Volunteer Management – Help set up and maintain a volunteer
management system:
a. Identifying new volunteers and support existing volunteers
for
tabling, presenting workshops, and doing community outreach
b. Training and schedule workshop presenters
c. Scheduling volunteers for tabling and community events
d. Scheduling monthly volunteer meetings
4) Sharing Knowledge – Communicate electronically with
E-Democracy.Org colleagues working on other projects in the
US, UK, and New Zealand to share ideas, techniques, workshop
curriculum, and promotional templates.
5) Linkages with SPED - Communicate the activities of the SPED
outreach committee to the broader SPED community and seek
linkages
between outreach activities and other SPED projects.
6) Personal Initiatives - Initiate new projects that take advantage
of AmeriCorps member personal skills and interests and fulfill
the
mission of SPED.
