around the city designated for the week to promote "walkability." But, what
does walkability mean? It could mean many things to many people. For me,
walkability means having a destination to walk to- businesses that are open
with various hours so that some are open early, some are open late. This would
bring more people out and, one would hope, an increase in people actively
moving about would naturally create an awareness amongst drivers. I think many
neighborhoods are already set-up to be walkable in this way- much of Highland
Park can access its business district by foot, neighborhoods along University
and much of Snelling have a great variety of businesses to access by foot,
downtown apparently is getting more businesses with evening hours. But, to
improve walkability- do what it takes to keep those businesses coming to St
Paul neighborhoods.
What is your definition of walkability and what would you like to see?
