great. It is mostly native, mostly perennial, with a bit of everything. Instead
of following experts, I just experimented. I found that I could grow plants
from a warmer climate. I found there are many sun plants that will grow in the
shade, they just grow slower and bloom later, which actually is an advantage. I
found many shade plants have small flowers, yet are very beautiful and
distinctive. I learned to plant flowers with distinctive leaves so I would not
pull them out thinking they were weeds.
I have to have a shade garden since I love trees. I have had to replace two of
my trees, and the baby tree is Burr Oak that will take 20 years to grow into
magnificence.
And then I noticed that I was really being very St Paul in my thinking. I was
making do with less and with small in the shade garden. I was using what worked
instead of following expert advice. I was investing for the long term in
planting trees, especially the slow growing Burr Oak. I guess after more than
ten years, I am truly becoming part of the St Paul culture:
Elegantly Simple Long Term
Grace Kelly nicknamed Kelly
Curmudgeon from Merriam Park
Like always still waiting the St Paul RNC financing,
just being nice about it
Don't expect it to last.
