up with to create excitement for the new season is an illegal act.
About 30 years ago a well known snowmobile manufacturer held a
convention/promotion for their sales force. They parked a trailer on
site and ensconced in it several passably attractive and interestingly
clothed women who were available for conversation and other playful
activities. The PR person who made this little arrangement was
terminated from his job and it was made perfectlly clear at the
termination that he was gone, not because he engaged in illegal
behavior, but because he got caught. The PR and promtional business has
come a ways since then. No cleverly dressed available women but still
illegal PR and the complaint being ... they got caught.
Now let us think of what they could have been doing instead of hanging
illegal banners: Let me see... give away sports cards, have an
autograph signing, include a pig in the promotion (hey, it worked for
the Saints), have a parade, hire a band, do some sky painting, haul a
banner around behind a plane, have a hockey player look-alike contest,
have a free skate with the players and their kids, distribute free
posters at youth serving agencies, give free tickets to people willing
to walk through Saint Paul wearing a hockey uniform, write a wild and
wooley jingle and have a singing contest, have a free skate sharpening
clinic, give free hair cuts in front of the arena with the Wild logo
buzzed in, give free temporary Wild logo tatoos,, ,
Naw. Maybe the only alternative is a banner.
