WANTED: Candidates for
St. Paul E-Democracy Executive Committee
We need you!!!! Please, consider placing your name in nomination.
Two seats are up for election on our nine member Executive Committee.
St. Paul E-Democracy is just over one year old (SPIF is much older).
St. Paul E-Democracy was founded as an organization a little over one
year ago, with the following mission:
"St. Paul E-Democracy strives to inform, engage, and
empower community members in the public life of St. Paul
by building online forums and other tools for public
engagement and by making those resources accessible to
the community. St. Paul E-Democracy seeks to improve the
quality of public policy decision making in St. Paul by
broadening public participation and by linking the
diverse voices of the citizenry to community leaders and
elected officials in a civil and respectful exchange of
information and ideas."
Our first year has been slow, as we struggled to build the
infrastructure for a community based service organization. As we
enter our second year, we hope to build momentum and expand our
presence in the community. We have a growing outreach program based
in the Rondo library, offering one-on-one tutoring and group
workshops designed to provide local residents with computer/internet
skills that can help them become more involved in the community.
With city elections for council and school board this year, St. Paul
E-Democracy has a real role to play in engaging the public in some
very important discussions about the future of our city.
Elections for the two open seats will be held in early April in
conjunction with our annual meeting (exact date and venue to be
announced very soon).
SPED Executive Committee members are elected or appointed to two year
terms. The time commitment of an Executive Committee member looks
something like this:
1) Monthly Executive Committee meetings
(currently 3rd Wednesday of month
at 7:30 AM)
2) Participate on at least one SPED
committee (with meetings)
3) Participate in online discussion
of Executive Committee
4) At least one annual, half day
"strategic planning meeting"
(most likely on a Sat. morn.)
5) Misc. other tasks.....
The Executive Committee is responsible to oversee and provide long
term direction for all the activities of St. Paul E-Democracy.
More info to come in the days ahead.
