Post in City preparation for RNC
Or 234 Tasers! Now what could they possible need those for??? Resolution – 08-99 – Establishing a 2008 financing and spending plan in the Police Department to purchase 234 Tasers. (Laid over from February 6 for public hearing) (GS 3048234) We need more of these lethal weapons when the wild and crazy protesters come to exercise their 1st Amendment Right to free speech which of course hasn't been granted because the City of St. Paul is withholding the parade permit - saying they won't consider the matter until...May! (was March). We all know it has to do with 'security' issues which are way more important than free speech because we all need to live in constant fear because there is so much to be afraid of in this world - especially non-violent protesters - while the war party is here hosting war criminals and celebrating their next war candidate for president. The police, who will be protecting the war criminals and their friends, will be well armed against the peaceful protesters. Tasers are included in that armory. All the extra arms the police will buy will be around lots longer than the RNC - What effect will that have on people of color in this town? OR for that matter future expression of resistance to domination? The Canadians know better than to use tasers. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/12/15/world/main3621683.shtml Here's why! A Chicago study suggests that use of the Taser can interfere with heart function. A team of scientists and doctors at the Cook County hospital trauma center stunned 6 pigs with two 40-second Taser discharges across the chest. Every animal was left with heart rhythm problems and two of the subjects died of cardiac arrest. One of the subjects died three minutes after being shot indicating, according to researcher Bob Walker, that "after the Taser shock ends, there can still be effects that can be evoked and you can still see cardiac effects." ^ "Chicago study calls Taser's safety claims into question", CBC News, January 30, 2008 - http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/01/30/taser-study.html Nanette Echols Will protest without a permit! It's my constitutional right!
