Many of you have probably heard that people are organizing to raise the minimum
wage to $15 in St Paul.
I support this because I think it will make our city a better and fairer place
to live and work! Plus, I believe that everyone deserves to make enough money
to live on, for their hard work at their job.
I read recently that 40% of all St Paul residents live in poverty, even though
the vast majority of those people are working. That has huge effects on the tax
base, education system, public health, etc. People are working for these
poverty wages and they will have less time to spend with their families. $15
would put money in workers pockets, which goes directly into our local economy
here. Phased in over a couple years, $15 is a great way to reduce poverty and
inequality!
What have you all heard about this effort to raise our minimum wage to $15? Do
you have questions or ideas? Would love to hear your thoughts. Nobody who works
for a living should live in poverty!
