Fellow Eastsiders,
KENDALL'S ACE HARDWARE is having an EMPTY HOUSE PARTY, 12-5 PM,
Saturday, 7/28. The store is closed, and this will be your last time to see
the store. Service is being provided at 978 North Dale St., until the new
store opens on October 13/14. The phone, 776-6996 rolls over to the
Dale St. store until the new store opens.
Note: Personlly, it was been a real joy to work with the Croby's. Kendall
always has such a positive spirit, even when the situation isn't perfect.
THANKS, KENDALL!!
Other updates/events:
The Payne Maryland Groundbreaking was a terrific success with Mayor
Coleman, Councilmember Bostrom, County Commissioner McDonough
present. The attendance was amazing.
Note: I had said in earlier notes that the demolition of the old Arlington
Rec. Center and Bradshaw was projected to start on 7/30. I now
understand from Kraus-Anderson Construction that my date is about
a week ahead of when the work will actually start.
The AMERICAN INDIAN FAMILY CENTER will be hosting a renovation project
work week, Sat, 8/4; Sun, 8/5 from 7 AM to 6 PM, with a ribbon cutting on
Tuesday noon, 8/7.
Beacon Bluff (old 3M site): You've probably noticed buildings being
demolished with a scheduled completion of 10/2/2013. Building 21 (the
former 3M administration building) will remain and is being marketed.
The Eastside Family Clinic, currently in the complex with Rainbow, needs
more space and will be moving to the site with a late summer/early fall
construction start. The Hub Plaza project (historical displays/public art,
etc.) at 7th & Minnehaha will begin construction in August with signage
and art installed in 2013. After several years of meetings, more of the
decisions have been made, and the community advisory committee is
meeting less frequently.
I-35E CONSTRUCTION: Exit/entrance ramps on the east side of I-35E are open,
but exit/entrance ramps on the west side of I-35E are gone. You cann't get to
K-mart from Maryland right now. The old bridge is gone and the new one is
being constructed west of the freeway. Constructing the bridge in this way
will reduce the time that Maryland needs to be closed. The area west of I-35E
will have sound barriers, while residents on the eastside of I-35E have elected
not to have sound walls. MnDot is considering items of visual interest for the
sound walls to accomodate community requests.
PABA PIG ROAST, 8/23, Music Cafe, to support the renewed Payne Arcade
Parade. I have reduced price advance tickets.
PAYNE ARCADE PARADE, 10/14, 11 AM.
