Hi All!
Thought I'd take advantage of the lull in posts to let you in on an open
secret.
There is a cozy place in a beautiful setting off Cty C between Victoria and
Dale.
Most of you have probably seen the flag and the sign at the entrance, but I
wonder how many have ever ventured down the hill.
Let me tell you, as a member (Sons of American Legion) I am biased, but if
you are looking for cheap eats, cheap drinks and until October 1, lots of
second hand smoke, no one will ask you to prove membership.
Trust me, we need the money. No one is turned away and strangers are
welcomed warmly.
The pleasure I get from hanging out there is to chat up the old folks, vets,
wives and widows and widowers. I have learned a lot from these good people,
and it is amazing how sharp the 80's and up crowd is. Must be the booze and
cigarettes. There are even a couple of 92-year-old vets.
As a bonus, we have an awesome two-tier deck from which prospect you can
enjoy a baseball game played on a gorgeous field in the natural amphitheater
below. You'll see many of our feathered Central Park denizens flying
overhead between pitches.
We have events about every week. This Saturday from 4-8 we will have a
steak fry. For $6.00 you get a super cut of flesh and your choice of
triimings and you grill it yourself on our large propane burner. $1 tap
beers will be served by moi.
As you might expect, the aging membership and now the smoking ban has put
the Club in a bit of peril. We could use yourr support. Just stop by
once. If it ain't your cup of tea at least you tried it.
