next to Headington Baptist Church from 13-16 December. People are concerned at
the loss of part of Headington’s heritage.
Old Headington’s Conservation Area Appraisal says:
"Traditional street furniture including the red post-box, red telephone box and
black painted ‘Lucy and Dean’ street lamps are a positive element of the
village’s historic character."
I have asked the City Council to investigate whether proper consultation has
taken place. The power to the phone box has already been cut off.
It appears there are a number of technical issues attached to this: whether the
removal needs consent, whether a notice was published so the wider general
public were aware and could object, and whether the reference to it in the
appraisal gives grounds for appeal.
The city council could have applied for it to be listed, like the one in
Pembroke St.
I’ve contacted the Civic Society and the OPT for help. The deadlines for doing
anything to stop this are over. But surely it's worth a try?
Do YOU think it’s worth saving?
