Recently there have been either outright violations or near violations of Rule
#4 -- Be Civil.
Be advised of the following:
- Forum Participation Rule #4, Be Civil, governs civility on this forum
- I have taken action on the violations
- A public figure is gets the same respect as any member
For those who have not reviewed the rules of participation you can find them
I have sent private emails to those who have violated the forum rules. Each
member individually needs to "lead by example" by practicing the forum rules of
civility to sustain proper decorum, but know the rules have and will be
enforced as I pledged in my introductory post.
A public figure on our forum gets the same respect as our regular members. It
is what makes us different from the other discussion venues. A public
discussion can be passionate without being personal. If people know they can
express an opinion different from others and still be treated with respect I
believe more people will participate in the discussion, not less. I think we
can all agree that more voices joining in on the conversation is a good thing.
My use of private email to rule violators asking them to be more mindful of the
rules can be effective. But for now, tolerance of violations of the forum rules
will be be fairly limited. We have some great discussions going; please follow
the forum rules of civility so we can focus on the important issues being
As a reminder, comments or complaints about forum management or complaints
about member rule violations must not be posted to the main forum. To do so is
a violation of the forum rules. Instead, direct such messages privately to me.
