This was good news. This was a real good reason in of itself to vote for Obama.
Hopefully, RT will become an appointment. Assistant something or other, or an
Ambassador.
Housing is way too important, and RT just does not seem to know enoughabout it.
Especially Elder Housing and Homeless Housing. So hopefully Barak Obama is smart
enough to realize that. With his community organizer background I expect Obama
will have too much concern forneighborhoods and communities to consider that.
RT is an absolutely perfect person to be appointed Ambassador to some
non-critical country. The pomp and ceremony as well as P.R. is what RT does
naturally. I think Obama is also good enough at that aspectto recognize that
talent RT has and appoint him appropriately.
With his attention to Airport noise perhaps Environment might also be a good
choice but Ambassador was what RT was born to do. Pomp and ceremony as well as
Public Relations without responsibility for detail and policy.
So who are we looking at for Mayor? Hopefully someone just the opposite.
Someone with less care about public relations and fluff and with more concern
with the details of running a City. Someone who understands the budget and the
different departments of the City and how they need to serve community and
resident interests, concerns, and NEEDS would be refreshing change.
We actually need a real person, not a political image for a change. Any
suggestions?

Considering Mayor Rybak's previous experience in journalism and public
relations position in the public sector, I would speculate he would be
ideal as Press Secretary (or whatever the title is) for President Obama.
Councilmembeer Gary Schiff has presented himself as a very quality
politician and an actual effective leader on the Minneapolis City
Council. I believe Councilmember Schiff would be an excellent Mayor of
Minneapolis.

I think Mr. Graham's suggestion that we start to put some real thought into
who should run for Mayor is of critical importance. The standard DFL folks
need to be challenged by some new blood, getting some of the excitement from
the young folks who voted for the first time and POC flowing into this
deliberation would be fantastic. The DFL's choice of Franken was a major
mistake we should make sure does not happen again.

It was explained to me that our city's governance system designates the
chairperson of city council to be mayor in such an event. That would be
Barbara Johnson.

Granted, the chairperson of the city council succeeds to the mayoralty.
However, Mayor Rybak has promised to fulfill his elected term in office
because he's so happy there and City Precinct Caucuses will be held
next February or March to elect delegates to endorse candidates for
City Council and City elected offices for the 2009 City Elections.

Time out please. I would like to know who wrote "Ignore obvious flame bait."
I did not. Was that our moderator?
I did not make this statement as any intention as flame bait if that's what
this means. I was very simply (and perhaps naively?) stating fact.
I have met Barbara Johnson. Lisa Goodman introduced me to her to talk about
the Strong Schools Strong City Referendum. We had a very lively and
productive conversation. I don't know a lot about her beyond that, but I
just want to be sure that everyone knows that this was not put out there as
flame bait.
Call me stupid for not knowing better, but it was not intentionally
provocative.

90 days to go until the start of the 2009 election season -- Precinct Caucuses.
(Or maybe 120 days, if they are set for March instead of February).
