together for the city of Wilmington, Delaware. The city brought
together leaders from all walks of life to a "Hope Commission" to lay
out a series of programs for improving the quality of life in the city
with respect to crime, education, and jobs. Reading through the
report, it brings together a lot of ideas that aren't necessarily new,
but makes them part of a unified whole. Branding it as the "Hope
Commission", and trying to get that brand into the public
consciousness, is also an interesting step.
It appears that the city of Minneapolis is already undertaking some of
the proposals (like community policing), but has Minneapolis ever put
together a high-level commission bringing business leaders, religious
leaders, community leaders, law enforcement officials, and the like
together for a comprehensive look at how we can all work together to
deal with the biggest problems facing this community? If so, why
isn't this a constant theme that all leaders refer back to? If not,
why not?
