Tomorrow (Wed. O ct. 25)
City Council Chambers
3rd floor
350 south 5th street (on Lrt stop...gov't center)
11 am.
Come for the Execution....stay for the wake:
Library will vote on this unprecedented budget/policy tomorrow night (WED)
6pm Mpls Public Lib. 300 Nic. Mall. (LRT to Nic. mall stop) 2nd floor.
From doors on Nic mall side take elevators or escalator...turn left from
either elev/esc. Doty Board room
Come and witness history being made...the selling off of our residents
assets and legacy...a decision which is NOT necessary. Funding
exists....contradictions exist between what finance says might be possible
and what some on council believe as "untouchable" funds. NE/SE friends of
libraries have developed a work out plan...trouble is no one has
acknowledged it...WHY???
Why won't the city acknowledge these plans...too complicated, too much work
for them or have they already made up their minds?
Residents need to ask what is really going on here...Follow the money and
question the city's motives since '02/'03. "Reformers" won't be happy until
the independently ELECTED Library board becomes an ... APPOINTED
BOARD...appointed by the MAYOR and/or CITY COUNCIL. This has been discussed
for 3 years. Appointees are much easier to deal with than those messy
elected people. Do we really want the ever-changeable city running our
libraries? Ya don't last for 120 years without serving your customers
well!!!
This is THE MAYOR'S AND COUNCIL'S decision--not the library
board's.
They have set the parameters thru which the library has starved itself...and
have the gall to say "we will support any decision the library makes"???
When the Library's OBIT is written, let's be sure we put the blame (at least
80% of it) where it belongs
best wishes,
