Several Minneapolis residents, and a few Minnesotans in other parts of the state have been organizing in support of the Gaza Freedom March<http://www.gazafreedommarch.org>for a little over a month and have our first few sucesses to announce, as well as an upcoming event. The Gaza Freedom March is being organized by CODEPINK and is planned to take place in Gaza on December 31st, 2009 and a local march or action will take place here in Minneapolis, as well. The March is Gandhi-inspired non-violent march that will include as many as 1,000 international participants and many thousands of Palestinians representing civil-society groups engaged by CODEPINK organizers Col. Ann Wright and Medea Benjamin. Thursday night, the SD 61 DFL Central Committee <http://sd61.dfl.org/>passed a resolution in support of the Gaza Freedom March. SD 61 is that part of the city represented by Sen. Linda Berglin, including Whittier, Stevens Square, Phillipps and Powderhorn Park neighborhoods. On Friday, Sylvia Schwarz and Ouahib Chalbi, two members of the local group planning to march in Gaza taped an interview for BelAhdan TV for broadcast on Saturday, Dec 5th at 10:30 PM (Twin Cities Public Television - TPT-MN). I also found out Friday that theUptake.org would be willing to send Noah Kunin to cover the march in Gaza if enough funds can be raised - you can contribute directly to theUptake for that, but be sure to communicate your donation is to help send Noah Kunin to Cairo and Gaza. For an overview of the march and its motivation, Medea Benjamin discusses the Gaza Freedom March in a 30 minute podcast, lauds our Rep. Keith <email obscured>> I would like to encourage more Minneapolis residents to participate in the march in Gaza, or to help organize local support for the march. If you want to volunteer please send an email to: <email obscured> The deadline to register to participate in the March is November 30th. Our first public event, a fundraiser and educational event will be a showing of the documentary Occupation 101 on December 6th at Hennepin Ave United Methodist Church on Dec. 6th at 4 PM. $5 - 10 suggested donation. We would like to meet a few more donors that give more and help energize this campaign for human rights and the lifting of the illegal siege on Gaza.
