SAMPLE BALLOT....
received thurs....along with my neighbors (plus spouses) in 209 senior coop
units.....55417 (ward 12). neighbors in my old block received their ballots
today (also 55417).
One of my senior neighbors innocently said, "I don't think it's going to do us
any good today". I am wondering if this might have made a difference in 2
races...or contributed to extended handcount for those getting 50% plus one.
the argument has been made that voters need to take more responsibility...in
theory great and i agree. but in the real world many depend on a party to do a
screening/endorsement for smaller but no less important races...how many of us
know the issues and candidates on the soil and consevation boards (if you went
thru black sunday{?} fatal dust bowl storms...you know the 'why').
and, yes, Terrell,
the candidates paid a heck of alot for it...to the point some of the *small*
races had to scurry about digging up the funds ( told, no pay-up, no way on
ballot). I made a donation to help out one campaign (had to chose between
2...but both made it on).
i'll prorate it for the 2 wards that did get it before election day.....but i
want my dedicated donation to the dfl.....RETURNED.
heard from 1 campaign the deadline for gtd. delivery was WED.......also heard
the sample ballot was delivered to post office on thursday.
even at Wed., that's cutting it too close.
around 9:30 tonight, this came thru on my e mail...dated 12:22 pm tues:
sample ballot email from Mr. Melendez' office ?
" Vote Today for your DFL endorsed candidates "

the STRIB, being a paragon of fiscal responsibility and responsible debt
management, editorialized on the BeT....
http://www.startribune.com/opinion/editorials/69193002.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUUsZ
regarding better (or any) auditing....better talk to the mayor, council pres.
johnson, chair ways and means Ostrow
(by the way...any bets on who will be the *** NEXT *** w&m's chair ?)& one of
the elected citizens. That's the BeT majority voting down audits, as well as
the decisions to de-fund the library.
excuses, excuses, excuses ... city hasn't $ to hire auditor ?
Pig feathers...look at their priorities since 2002. Lost on the city that
auditing can save the city money ? Unlike artsy water fountains, auditors tend
to be the standard, utilitarian water spigots..
...less waste, best practices, fewer legal bills, less temptation for political
or monetary gain, etc.
Does poor auditing affect our bond credit rating ??
televising...good idea. How about televising the Charter Commission, too?
and some other decision making/advisory groups...HPC, Art commission, ethics...
for your info, televising is an expense charged back to a
department....internally...it aint free and comes out of someones budget.
agreed ...need to have another 'odd numbered ' elected seat (by the way, when
the library board was knocked off, the planning commission went from even to
odd numbers but the council didn't have a problem with an 'even' number of
members...as
long as the council got other 'even' seat The same cm's talking out of both
sides of their mouths on 'even vs. odd' may not realize some residents listen
to multiple committee meetings.
A minor power grab by the city to counter park/school/county seats.
anyone go to the charter commission today ?
With most of them endorsing the Vote Yes group....must have been a few long
faces.

off-list, one of our forum members speculated on a possible cause of "the
missing ballots".
check the postal permit (non profit.....paid....*** ST. PAUL, MN *** ...)
is this the state dfl's permit number ? (return address is paid for by the mn.
dfl state committee, st paul address)
if the mailing were dropped off at a mpls post office....would it have been
sent to st paul ...then back to mpls. ?
anyone know so it doesn't happen again ... or allow several extra days for
delivery ?
best wishes,
