I'd still like to see Farheen directly address the issue. The story wasn't Ed Felien's. The byline was Dennis Geissinger. From the story: "Hakeem informed Southside Pride that she will be caucusing with the DFL party on Feb. 5, and she wrote in an e-mail that she will be "promoting a 'no endorsement' for 61B." " EY: If the story is incorrect, then why are they reporting on an email? That's more than an interview that was misunderstood. That's why I challenge Farheen Hakeem to speak up publicly on this forum. I've edited the subject line to make that clear. I sort of wonder why any e-mail makes news. Interviews, press releases and
actual statements are one thing, but this seems like a mis-quote. I would
challenge Dennis Geissinger or Ed Felein (if I was going to challenge anyone at
all, but it's hardly worth it...there's a reason the Pulse doesn't exist
anymore.)
I'm sure she'll explain it eventually. The real question for me is this.
Are any of you going to care what she actually says or do we just move on to
the next innuendo? It sounds like a lot of minds are already made up without
actually listening to what the candidates have to say.
Personally, I'd love to see the DFL, GOP, IP AND Green party conventions all
get "monkey wrenched." Then these partisan endorsements wouldn't mean anything
and we could get straight to issues and talking to people.

This seems to be disputed (I can't speak to the accuracy or inaccuracy
of the statement)..

Because that second statement was in fact made by email? There are many
ways one might promote a particular issue, and not all of them involve
participating in a caucus. (The quote makes no reference to email when
talking about the caucus issue.) There does not seem to be any question
that she would indeed prefer 'no endorsement' by the DFL.
Didn't Hakeem's original email say she were going to suggest delegates do a "no endorsement"? The article (not written by Felien), put part of Hakeem's original email in quotes. I'd be interested in seeing your original emails to Felien on the Issues list - just so people can judge for themselves. Here's the quote from the article: Hakeem informed Southside Pride that she will be caucusing with the DFL party on Feb. 5, and she wrote in an e-mail that she will be "promoting a 'no endorsement' for 61B." EY: I challenge Hakeem to post the two emails she had with Ed Felien that he is referring to, not the emails about Southside Pride issuing a retraction. Is your campaign stepping back from calling for "no endorsement" in the DFL race? I'm assuming that Hakeem is caucusing as a Green. Will she still be encouraging DFLers not to do an endorsement? Caucusing March 4th with Greens 3. Plan on attending the DFL caucus to pass out campaign lit, NOT to caucus. I just wanted to clear the air and tell you what I am really doing. I am not, and am unlikely to ever become, a political operative.
As a result, I may have unrealistically high expectations for
the ethical behavior of elected officials and candidates.
Having said that, the notion that a candidate and the candidate's
supporters might attend the caucuses of another political party, for
any purpose, appears sleazy to me. To attend the caucuses of
another party with the intent of influencing the outcome of
those caucuses (which seems to include distributing campaign
literature for a candidate of another party) seems to me to be
really sleazy. Beyond the appearance of sleaze, this sort of
activity seems to reflect a disregard for the election process.
Is this generally accepted practice in Minneapolis? Is this
consistent with local, state and federal election laws? How
likely is it that someone will file a fair campaign practices
complaint?
In an environment where the equivalent of nearly a quarter of
the Minneapolis City Council membership has been convicted on
federal corruption charges in the last few years, I would hope
that candidates would try to avoid even the appearance of
sleaze. (Yes, I understand that Ms. Hakeem is running for
state office.)
(Oh, did I mention that I might have unrealistically high
standards for the ethical behavior of elected officials? But
still...)
