Two speakers at the Wednesday hearing were from the suburbs and asserted the
park is a regional memorial to Mr. King.
When the 1968 City Council passed the enabling measure, did the measure provide
for the restrictions asserted by the opponents. Does not matter what they
think, they may not amend measures passed by body lawfully entitled to do so.
In those days the MPRB was appointed; their measure would have had to be
consistent with Council measure and approved by the Council and signed by the
Mayor.
What we need is the accurate history of the action to provide a memorial for Mr
King.
