generated a great deal of discussion. This has split into at least three
different topics threads. I'm making a general forum post rather than one each
The civility rules of this forum expressly prohibit one-on-one personal
4. Be Civil - No insults, name calling or inflamed speech. Personal one-on-one
arguments, disagreements or personality conflicts are not appropriate on the
public discussion forum. The Forum Manager shall provide guidance to
participants on what is appropriate and what is not allowed. Attempts at humor
or sarcasm should be labeled ... ;-), :-), etc.
Additionally, in October of 2009 after consultation with other e-democracy.org
forum managers, I made it clear to the forum that the posting of personal
information of individuals or links to such information even if that
information was publicly available in response to an opinion one does not agree
with is a personal attack. By extension, posting personal information such as
the exact home location of individuals who have served their sentence and have
been released from prison is not permitted in this forum.
My general approach to forum management is to first provide guidance to members
whose posts are not in compliance with the forum participation rules; not to
issue formal warnings. I have spent considerable time sending offlist guidance
emails for posts regarding the aforementioned topic that have violated the
rules. While that approach has helped it has not stemmed the tide of more
people violating the rules.
Please be advised that if you choose to violate the civility rules of this
forum, you will receive a formal warning. I will not first be sending you
Two formal warnings in a 12 month period will result in a two week suspension;
three formal warnings in a 12 month period will result in a six month
suspension from the forum.
If you are unsure whether something you are writing is not in compliance with
the civility rules as outlined above, please contact me *offlist* to check
before you post.
The purpose of the list is to provide a place where we can discuss the
important local issues facing Minneapolis in a civil and respectful manner.
This is possible only through the collective effort of all of its members; not
just the forum manager. Please lead by example.
