This is on the agenda for the Public Safety and Regulatory committee
meeting at City Hall tomorrow. We are short cops/ firefighters and could
probably use city dollars for tons of things but we are going to probably
get this......
17. Pet Licensing:
Report detailing the hiring of a staff person dedicated to pet licensing.
Staff report: Pet licensing RCA
As a non pet owner I have not weighed in on this new set of fees the city
is looking to collect but it seems to me that if they need someone to get
this up and running to make money for the city they should do it with
existing staff. Though this is listed as a one year coordinator position
I have a funny feeling that it becomes just one more permanent FTE that
would be better spent elsewhere.

This is what gets me (among many things). The creation of another level of
bureaucracy and spending more money to administrate the bureaucracy.
Evidently unlicensed kitties are such a priority in Minneapolis that we can
spend even more money. Great. Between this and banning disposable coffee
cups, I really have to wonder what's going on downtown.
