Wow, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the work of the the Powderhorn, Central, Bryant and Bancroft neighborhoods in creating a vision and plan for the renaissance of the commercial node that marks the meeting point of the four neighborhoods at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue. Quicker than I could have imagined, some neighborhood residents have incorporated The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center which will be housed in the old Nakomis Theater building that is currently home to Wrecker Bros. Auto Body at 3749 Chicago Avenue. I can't think of a more fitting building to be transformed from its current auto body use back to its original use as an arts center that the community can benefit from and be proud of. This renovation of the old Nakomis Theater building and this new organization will be a great addition to 38th and Chicago and I can't wait to see it open. The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center is a new non-profit arts and educational organization founded by neighborhood residents that will be focused on art forms produced by heat, spark, and flame. CAFAC will be holding a fundraiser and informational event at: Bancroft Elementary School - Old Gymnasium 1315 East 38th Street Thursday, March 13th from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. The event will be an open house-style gathering for the community, welcoming anyone and everyone with an interest in learning more about and lending support to CAFAC. Come and hear about the organization, view examples of the type of work that will be done at the center, and make a tax-deductible donation if you wish! It's been brought to my attention off-list that the Neighborhood Revitalization
Program is indeed responsible for funding the planning work that the 4
neighborhoods conducted which led to this wonderful redevelopment taking place
at 38th and Chicago.
I figured this was the case, but I wasn't sure. In hindsight I should have
took the leap to include credit to NRP in my initial post. We own the NRP for
this.

Yeah, I was so thrilled to hear about this!! What suprised me the most is how
unique the idea is in terms of the type of "arts" it is focused on: Fire arts!
How cool is that? I don't think there are many facilities, outside of
schools/universitites, where people who want to glassblow, weld, etc, are able
to. See you at the fundraiser!
