For a look at what further improvements the city could make to promote bike
commuting, see Dateline Minneapolis in today's AA West or North Extra sections.
In that vein, here's one one rider's experience from a bike commute that
happened to fall on Bike Walk to Work Day:
Pull touring bike down from garage rack. Discover flat tire from last week's
commute.
Switch to road bike.
Head north on Stevens Av S., which seems to be more patch than paving.
Head north on the great Park Avenue bike lanes.
Encounter Cemstone cement truck blocking entire bike lane in 3700 block despite
ample space in parking lane.
Dirt debris in 3700 and 3600 blocks.
Lane generally clear of glass debris.
Bolt lying in path in the 2700 block. My son's tire was once shredded by a
bolt.
Orange cones in bike lane in front of the construction project for Lutheran
Social Services.
Pull into Star Tribune bike cage--11th bike there. Wonder what happens to the
cage if Avista sells the block.
Cross Portland Avenue and resolve for the umpteenth time to call the city about
the missing half-block of bike lane in the 400 block.
Shower and realize that I must have left my underwear at home.

Good heavens! So that's why I was nearly over-run
by a mob of frenzied microphone and camera wielding
types on Portland after a mid-afternoon excursion to
a pay phone...they were responding to an anonymous
tip of a flasher in the Strib newsroom!
They got R.T. and Pawlenty...is nothing sacred?
