by Cynthia Frost, TC Daily Planetâ˘Â Dozens of young women fanned out along
Nicollet Mall on Saturday, offering passerby a free scarf in return for
answering a single question: âWhy do you think I wear this?â Â The young woman
points to a scarf delicately and neatly wrapped to cover her head and neck; it
is a hijab and is worn by many Muslim women. [Slide show below]
â˘Â TUESDAY PICK | "After School Specials" at the SooVAC: Boot camp for
artistshttp://tcdailyplanet.net/node/61273
by Jay Gabler, TC Daily Planet ⢠Having been an arts editor for over five
years, I can attest that a lot of artistsâin all disciplinesâare absolutely
terrible at promoting themselves. That's understandable: if their gift was PR
instead of painting, they'd be in cubicles at Weber Shandwick instead of
studios at Northrup King. Still, you've got to put food on the work table and
wine in the box, and a little promotional savvy can go a long ways toward
finding the people who will actually pay you to do what you love. On July 31,
the Soo Visual Arts Center hosts the first of three monthly professional
development sessions for artists looking to get a little better at waving their
own flags.

byMargo Ashmore,North News⢠Marcus Harcus, a DFL member running against
incumbent Joe Mullery in Minnesota House of Representatives District 59A
suspended active campaigning on July 1, but âif elected I would serve,â he
said. His name will stay on the ballot, so NorthNews offered both candidates
this forum and the same questions as the 59B candidates. The winner in this
contest will face Cindy Lilly, the Republican, in November.
