Say a hospital patient needs an x-ray, typically a procedure that is widely
understood in American culture. No problem.

There was snow on the ground, but a few who attended the most recent Nice
Ride expansion focus group Dec. 14-focused on avid cyclists-arrived by
bicycle or talked about their winter gear as they dined on chicken,
eggplant, rice noodles and Chinese broccoli, home-cooked Asian cuisine by
Myong Hee Kim.

*Part one of a two part story
In 2009, as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, the
Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support (MDHFS) received $2.2
million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Competing
proposals to use some of these funds to fight obesity in North Minneapolis
by creating a Bike Walk Center have raised questions of transparency and
fair play.

MUSIC | Anglique Kidjo at the Ordway: Better than Springsteen
http://tcdailyplanet.net/node/43459
by Betsy Gabler, TC Daily Planet
When I walked out of the Ordway after seeing Anglique
Kidjo<http://www.kidjo.com/>on Friday, I was surprised to see snow.
The concert was so full of warmth, I
was sure the heat would radiate outward to the entire city and melt all of
it away.
THEATER | A fast, funny, and profane *Misanthrope* at Illusion Theater
http://tcdailyplanet.net/node/43470
by Bev Wolfe, TC Daily Planet
Illusion Theater and the Lighthouse Group presented Molire's *Misanthrope
or the Impossible Lovers* as this year's Lights Up production. Eric Powell
Holm updated and directed this famous 17th century French comedy of manners
about love, hypocrisy and self-indulgence. The production starts out
sluggish but ultimately proves worthwhile.

It's as much fun to hang out with her as it is to watch her perform or
listen to one of her CDs. On-stage and off, she's an original.

*"[Sue] was giving birth to the child, a baby girl it was, and it died as
she died. Never knowing what her second child was or who her first child
really was. Her death liked to kill Doak. He loved his wife and his
blue-eyed son.*

LOON COMMONS | Urban agrarianism
http://www.tcdailyplanet.net/node/43466
by Brian DeVore The City of Minneapolis is considering how to make it
easier for "urban ag" to exist in some of the most non-rural neighborhoods
in the state. In fact, the public comment period for the Urban Agriculture
Policy Plan <http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/cped/urban_ag_plan.asp> wraps
up Jan. 31. Ag in the city? It's not such a stretch. "We are still a nation
of farmers at heart," nationally recognized community gardening guru Rose
Hayden-Smith<http://www.foodandsocietyfellows.org/about/fellow/rose-hayden-smith>told
me recently.

Sometimes we just get together and find ways to entertain ourselves using
our children or our pets. Or our pets and children together.
