Reports to: Youth Program Manager
Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Hours: 10-12 hours/week during the school year, approximately
3:30-6:00pm Monday-Thursday. Summer hours may also be available.
Broad Scope and Function of Job: Promote academic success and developmental
assets of students in grades K-5 enrolled in school year, Out-of-School Time
educational program. Assist in facilitation of program in coordination with
staff team and Mpls. Public Schools. Develop individual learning strategies,
direct and applied instruction, and small group and individual tutoring in a
manner that engages youth. Actively & respectfully engage youth to achieve
youth development outcomes that target academic success through flexible and
creative instructional techniques and positive adult relationships. Prepare
and maintain records of work with individuals and groups. Must be able to
relate with and provide outreach to all segments of a multi-cultural community.
ESL teaching preferred.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:
1. Teaching and Tutoring (50%)
* Directly provide individual and small group teaching in reading,
writing and math.
* Actively & respectfully engage youth to achieve youth development
outcomes that target academic success through flexible and creative
instructional techniques and positive adult relationships.
* Adapt classroom lessons to accommodate the individual needs of
students.
* Use grade level standards to guide daily objectives.
* Develop respectful and caring rapport with students to ensure
effective communication and results.
2. Planning and Assessment (15%):
* Assist Program Manager in the development, implementation, and
evaluation of student progress.
* Develops ways to make progress transparent and creative approaches to
celebrating youth progress.
3. Supervision and Coaching (25%):
* Develop, organize, and track teaching and mentoring material for
volunteers, interns, and other community partners (America Reads tutors, etc.).
* Assist in coaching and developing volunteers, interns and other
community partners to ensure that each work appropriately with youth and in
accordance with effective educational practices, grade level standards and
program policies and procedures.
* Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
4. Other (10%):
* Assist in care of students during all program components.
* Attend and assist in preparation and clean-up of family events
* Other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
* Current Minnesota Teaching License.
Experience:
* Experience/aptitude implementing individualized educational plans.
* Understanding of State and MPS educational practices/standards.
* Understanding of grade level standards, lesson planning and backward
planning.
* Demonstrated ability promoting the healthy development and academic
success of youth and involving parents in their child's education.
* Strongly prefer bilingual competency in English and one of the
following: Spanish or Somali.
* School Year and Summer Commitment highly preferred.

Compensation: $21/hr.
