Youth Programs Family Engagement VISTA MEMBER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Host Site Overview:
East Side Neighborhood Services has been providing programming in Northeast and
Southeast Minneapolis for over 100 years and is a hub in those communities for
a wide range of services to children and families. East Side's mission is to
foster the healthy development and well-being of individuals and families while
strengthening our diverse community.
This position will support the Youth Department at ESNS which serves over 1,000
young people annually through out-of-school time programs, a summer residential
camp, youth employment and career pathways, truancy intervention and creative
arts therapy. ESNS Youth Programs build on developmental assets of youth by:
providing students with a safe environment where creative educational
activities use their time constructively, offering students support from staff
and volunteers trained to consistently reinforce their developmental needs,
helping students develop knowledge, respect, and understanding of people of
diverse ethnicities and ages, and helping students develop increased 21st
Century skills.
Position Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Insert possible activities Alliance VISTA Members may perform. Host Sites may
add additional tasks below):
1) Assist in the development of a Family Engagement Program for families
and caregivers of young people across the differernt ESNS youth programs
2) Conduct a survey and/or focus groups with parents and caregivers to
identify their needs and interests;
3) Coordinate a series of family nights across our various program sites,
as well as at least one larger cross-program event during the course of the
year. Family nights will include community building between parents, education,
resource sharing, etc.
4) Develop an evaluation tool(s) that we can use across our different
programs to measure the level of adult engagement and how it is impacted by the
family engagement program
5) Create an electronic resource library for families and that staff can
use to access information about community referrals
6) Assist with grant writing to ensure the sustainability of the program
7) Assist in the creation and promotion of the GradMinnesota Resource
Library
8) Create resources and materials to help inform the community and
disseminate information
9) Identify potential collaborators and partners
