Has anyone had success in getting those ever-spreading Burdock plants out of
their yard? The roots are so deep I'm having trouble pulling the entire plant—
I wonder how it is harvested by those who eat it!
Any suggestions for keeping on top of it? I want to get them out before the
thistles set in.

Sadly, I don't even know if I have the Burdock plant. Is this one of the weeds
that seem to be ever creeping into my yard/garden?

If you have a dog with long fur, you'll know when it's gotten close to a
burdock. I'm trying to train mine to avoid them.

I always thought my one plant was very attractive....even tho it was tedious
removing the burrs from my Newfie and the shepherd/collie mix.

Burdock doesn't creep, it arrives wearing heavy boots and driving a
bulldozer.

It's a biennial with very big leaves, reminds me a bit of rhubarb.
The roots go down to China. The second year, it has burrs.

The Minneapolis Issues List recently had a brief discussion on the dandelion,
that garden vegetable that has escaped to the monoculture grass deserts in
front of our houses. I never cease being amazed at how some people would
rather eat Round-Up than eat dandelions. But, then, maybe I have a special
prospective because I am going to attempt living on Social Security retirement
next year. It gives one a new feeling about free food.

When I was growing up dandelion greens were the stock cooked green in
the household. My mom would freeze large quantities and we'd have
them year round. Eat them pretty much like cooked spinach. I guess
you can eat them in salads but not, of course, after they've been frozen.

Getting a bit late in the year to harvest them, though. IIRC you want
them young, before they get tough and bitter.
